Identifying the Dimensions and Components of Virtual Curriculum Evaluation at the Primary Level (Mathematics and Science) in Tehran Province

Purpose: The objective of this study was to identify the dimensions and components of virtual curriculum evaluation at the primary level with a focus on mathematics and science in Tehran Province.
Methodology: This study adopted a qualitative exploratory–interpretive design. Nineteen experts from three groups—academic experts, experiential practitioners in primary schools, and policy-making and executive experts in education—were purposively selected. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, transcribed verbatim, and analyzed using flexible thematic analysis supported by MAXQDA software. Trustworthiness was ensured through triangulation, member checking, inter-coder and intra-coder agreement, and systematic documentation of the research process.
Findings: Data analysis led to the identification of six main dimensions: educational objectives, educational content, teaching and learning methods, interaction and participation, assessment methods, and educational support. Each dimension consisted of four core components, resulting in a total of twenty-four components. The thematic structure indicated that virtual curriculum evaluation is inherently multidimensional, with interaction, diversified assessment approaches, alignment with the national curriculum, and educational support emerging as critical determinants of curriculum effectiveness.
Conclusion: The findings suggest that evaluating virtual curricula at the primary level requires a comprehensive and context-sensitive framework that integrates curricular elements with the specific demands of online learning environments. The proposed framework provides a scientific basis for improving the design, implementation, and evaluation of virtual mathematics and science curricula in primary education.
