Designing a Collective Identity Model based on the Social Competence with a Mediating Role of Self-Efficacy in Qom Province University Students

Objective: Considering the importance of collective identity in performing group and social activities, this study was conducted with the aim of designing a collective identity model based on the social competence with the mediating role of self-efficacy in university students. Method: The present study in terms of purpose was applied and in terms of implementation method was descriptive from type of correlation. The research population was all undergraduate psychology students of Islamic Azad University of Qom province in the academic years of 2022-2023. The sample size of this study was 500 people, who were selected after checking the inclusion criteria with the available sampling method. Data were collected with the questionnaires of collective identity (Hezarjaribi and Lohrasbi, 2011), social competence (Felner et al, 1990) and self-efficacy (Sherer et al, 1982) and for their analysis were used from Pearson correlation coefficients and structural equation modeling methods in SPSS-27 and AMOS-24 software. Results: The findings showed that collective identity, social competence and self-efficacy in university students had a positive and significant correlation (P<0.01). Also, the collective identity model based on the social competence with the mediating role of self-efficacy in university students had a good fit, and in this model, the variable of social competence on the self-efficacy and collective identity of university students and the variable of self-efficacy on their collective identity had a direct and significant effect, and social competence with the mediating role of self-efficacy on the collective identity of university students had an indirect and significant effect (P<0.05). Conclusion: According to the results of the present study, counselors and psychologists workshops to improve the collective identity of university students can promote their social competence and self-efficacy through workshops.
