Abstract

Purpose: The objective of this study was to investigate the impact of a thematic approach to teaching Arabic on the academic progress of ninth-grade female students. The study aimed to determine whether thematic teaching significantly enhances students'' academic achievement in Arabic language lessons. Methodology: This applied research utilized a quasi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test evaluations, including control and experimental groups. The study population comprised ninth-grade female students at Hafez High School during the 2022-2022 academic year. Two classes were randomly selected as accessible samples, with one class assigned to the experimental group and the other to the control group. The sample size included 55 students, with 27 in the experimental group and 28 in the control group. Data were collected using a researcher-made questionnaire related to the fifth and sixth lessons of the Arabic curriculum. The validity of the questionnaire was confirmed by five Arabic instructors and three Arabic language professors. Data analysis was performed using SPSS24 software and ANCOVA to examine the effect of the thematic approach on academic progress. Findings: The findings indicated a significant improvement in the academic progress of students taught using the thematic approach. The experimental group''s post-test scores showed a notable increase compared to the control group. The ANCOVA results demonstrated a significant effect of the thematic teaching method on academic achievement, with a pre-test effect sum of squares of 241.26 (F = 3.71, p = 0.001, eta squared = 0.318) and a between-group effect sum of squares of 2.67 (F = 21.52, p = 0.001, eta squared = 0.384). Conclusion: The study concluded that the thematic approach to teaching Arabic has a significant positive impact on students'' academic progress. This method helps students understand and retain information more meaningfully and practically, enhancing their motivation and attitude towards learning. The results suggest that incorporating thematic approaches in educational curricula can improve the quality of education and student learning outcomes.
