Design and Validation of an Instrument for Assessing a Happy School

Abstract

Purpose: The objective of this study was to design and validate an instrument for assessing a happy school in elementary education. Methodology: The present study employed a sequential exploratory mixed-methods approach for data collection, consisting of both qualitative and quantitative phases. The first phase involved a qualitative study using conventional content analysis, while the second phase focused on the quantitative validation process of the happy school assessment instrument in elementary education. The quantitative study utilized a questionnaire and applied the Lawshe coefficient for validation. Findings: The findings indicated that the designed instrument effectively assesses all dimensions and components of a happy school in elementary education, including physical factors, the prevailing school atmosphere, teachers, management, curriculum, and extracurricular activities. The instrument comprises six components and 82 items. Conclusion: The designed instrument comprehensively assesses various dimensions of a happy school and can be used as a valid tool for evaluating educational environments in elementary education.
