Keywords:

Purpose: The present study, with a perspective toward the concept of the "transcendent city," aimed to examine the impact of parental role modeling and harmonization on the civic socialization of children within families of elementary school students in Tehran.
Methodology: This research was conducted using a survey method. A statistical sample of 726 families was selected through multistage cluster random sampling. Data collection was carried out in schools across 11 districts of Tehran. A researcher-made questionnaire, validated and confirmed for reliability, was used to measure the variables. The data were analyzed using confirmatory factor analysis, partial correlation coefficients, and multivariate regression with SPSS version 24.
Findings: The results of the analysis based on beta coefficients indicated that the civic socialization of children was influenced by the variable of parental role modeling with a coefficient of 0.361 and by the variable of parental harmonization with a coefficient of 0.239. Furthermore, 26.7% of the variance in the civic socialization of children was explained by these two variables (Adj. R² = .267). The relationships between the variables were also statistically significant (Sig. = .000).
Conclusion: This study, emphasizing the significance of parental role modeling and harmonization and their effects on children’s civic socialization, suggests that children do not become who we wish them to be, but rather who we truly are. Therefore, parents can contribute to the development of a transcendent city and the well-being of children by improving their personal characteristics and rational interactions, serving as role models for their children.
